Poland Deploys Security Forces to Russian Border Amid Sabotage Threats
Poland launches a high-alert security operation along the Kaliningrad border following intelligence warnings of potential sabotage and armed incursions.
POLICY WIRE — Warsaw, Poland — Poland has initiated a comprehensive special security operation along its frontier with the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. This move comes following specific intelligence warnings regarding potential sabotage attempts and armed incursions into Polish territory.
The security measures are currently concentrated in the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie provinces located in northeastern Poland. The response involves a coordinated effort between police forces, military personnel, border guards, and various national security services.
Marek Boroń, Poland’s Chief of Police, confirmed the deployment during a broadcast interview with RMF FM radio. He noted that counterterrorism units have been positioned to secure the area after reports suggested hostile acts could occur in the immediate future.
The alert was triggered by information shared last week by the Polish Military Intelligence Service as well as allied intelligence agencies. These reports specifically highlighted the risk of armed groups crossing the border to carry out sabotage missions.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk indicated that Polish authorities successfully thwarted a potential provocation on the border near Kaliningrad during the overnight hours.
