Pete Crow-Armstrong’s Stellar Performance Cements NL MVP Bid

POLICY WIRE — Chicago, USA — Pete Crow-Armstrong’s remarkable display of power at the plate has significantly bolstered his National League MVP candidacy. The Chicago Cubs’ center fielder delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, hitting three home runs and driving in six runs. This dominant showing led the Cubs to a commanding 17-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.

He was like, ‘I want three out of you today…. I need three,’ Crow-Armstrong recalled Sosa saying. “And sure enough, I don’t know what he passed down to me there.” This performance continues Crow-Armstrong’s pursuit of the NL MVP title, currently held by Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ohtani, who has been sidelined since July 3 due to injuries, has not been able to pitch and has been limited to designated hitter duties. In contrast, Crow-Armstrong has emerged as one of baseball’s top defensive players and a consistent offensive threat, batting .282 with 36 homers, 89 RBIs, and 32 steals in 136 games.

“Sometimes you feel it in your bones that you got a day like today in you and I did today,” Crow-Armstrong said. His first home run, a 435-foot drive to right-center, was his eighth career leadoff homer, all achieved this season. He followed up with a two-run shot off the foul pole in right field.

This was Crow-Armstrong’s fifth multihomer game this season and the 11th of his career. “I think he can change the game in so many different ways,” teammate Alex Bregman said. “One day it’s hitting three homers, the next day it’s making three diving plays or just running down balls that nobody else can go catch out there in center field.”

Crow-Armstrong’s impressive day included a 444-foot drive to center off right-hander Tony Santillan, prompting the crowd to chant “M-V-P! M-V-P!” as he rounded the bases. Even when he bounced to second with Reds catcher Jose Trevino on the mound in the eighth, the fans responded with a long ovation, acknowledging his historic three-homer game.

“The relationship has grown with all these fans,” Crow-Armstrong said, “so I’m just enjoying my time here more and more every day, walking down the street or in my uniform.”
