Penny Lancaster Reveals Rod Stewart’s Health Issues Detected at Critical Moment

POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Penny Lancaster, wife of legendary singer Sir Rod Stewart, has revealed that the 81-year-old musician’s “underlying health issues” were identified after he nearly fainted during a performance in Utah.

The “Maggie May” icon has faced a series of health challenges over the past year. Following the incident in June, doctors uncovered heart-related concerns, leading to a coronary stent procedure. As part of his recovery, Stewart was advised to take a four-week break from his final tour.

Lancaster shared that Stewart, whom she married in 2007, is now doing great after experiencing a few respiratory infections. She explained that the Utah concert took place at a high altitude, which can affect anyone, but it was only later discovered that he had an undiagnosed heart condition. It was at the right time and place, she said, adding that the issue was detected early enough for treatment.

She emphasized that Stewart, who is known for his fitness, is now eager to return to the stage. According to research, many people over 65 may need a stent, she noted. He’s had both heart disease and prostate cancer.

Stewart expressed gratitude for the medical care he received and apologized for missing his shows. I’m already feeling better and very much on the mend, he said in a statement. I want to thank the doctors, nurses, and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me.

Although the One Last Time tour was meant to be Stewart’s farewell, he previously expressed a desire to continue performing on a smaller scale. In a 2024 Instagram post, he mentioned wanting to embark on a Great American Songbook tour in the following year, though he acknowledged the possibility of not doing so.
