POLICY WIRE — City, Country — At least nine individuals, including three children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, according to local authorities. The Israeli military stated that it targeted “Hezbollah terror infrastructure” in response to previous actions against its soldiers. The strikes come amid escalating tensions in the region.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, stating it was in direct response to earlier hostilities initiated by Hezbollah. “Our actions are in self-defense and aimed at neutralizing immediate threats to our soldiers and citizens,” an IDF spokesperson said.
Lebanese authorities reported that the strikes hit several locations in southern Lebanon, resulting in significant civilian casualties. The Hezbollah group has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the incident.
This development further heightens the already volatile situation in the region, with both sides engaging in retaliatory actions. The international community has called for restraint and de-escalation to prevent further loss of life.
