Mother of Viral 3-Year-Old Soccer Prodigy Nevada Pierre Addresses Police Incident at Youth Match
Martasia Griffin breaks down why police were called on her 3-year-old son Nevada Pierre during a soccer game and discusses new business deals with Roc Nation.
POLICY WIRE — Florida, USA — Martasia Griffin is currently navigating a unique set of challenges raising her three-year-old son, Nevada. Rather than managing typical parenting duties, Griffin is overseeing her son’s training schedule and a growing influx of business opportunities surrounding his rising soccer talent.
During an interview with CBS Mornings, Griffin explained that she handles the boy’s emails and professional inquiries because he has received numerous offers. While she is hesitant to involve him in business prematurely, she noted the high cost of soccer and the public’s affection for him make these opportunities difficult to ignore.
Nevada Pierre gained a massive social media following, but he became national news last month after a youth soccer organizer called 911. Viral body camera footage showed the incident Griffin alleges the league director sought to remove the child simply because his skill level far exceeded that of his peers.
However, 911 recordings capture the league director claiming Nevada’s parents were being disruptive. On the camera video, the director is heard stating that Nevada is highly advanced and scoring many goals, but is also pushing other children during the game.
The director maintained he had instructed players not to push and pointed to a previous incident weeks prior where he had substituted players, including Nevada, out of the game.
Griffin recounted a moment after Nevada scored a fast goal where coaches, parents, and the director formed a circle excluding her and Nevada’s father. She felt she should have been included in the conversation since it centered on her son’s performance.
Griffin denied that she or the father, Don, were being disruptive, stating she was simply trying to find a solution to the situation. She noted she does not believe race was a factor in the police call or the director’s actions, as the director is also Black.
Griffin stated she attributes the friction to jealousy rather than race-based issues. She emphasized she would never limit Nevada’s potential or his success.
The mother revealed they often arrived late to games to give other children more time to play. She explained that Nevada was frequently removed from the game like a professional athlete just to ensure others had a turn.
The media spotlight, including support from figures like YouTube personality Ms. Rachel, has led to significant professional interest. Griffin mentioned an upcoming meeting with Roc Nation, the firm founded by Jay-Z, which is planning a training trip for Nevada in Spain month.
Additionally, Eddie Johnson, a former U.S. national team striker, offered the boy a full scholarship to train at his EJE7 Soccer Academy in Orlando. Johnson compared the toddler’s talent to legendary players like Pele, Neymar, and Ronaldinho.
Johnson expressed disbelief at the child’s level of coordination and dribbling control for his age. Griffin responded by stating Nevada is a true soccer player rather than just a boy who had police called on, predicting he will eventually break the world record as the youngest professional player.
