Mississippi Officer Resigns Following Fatal Shooting of One-Year-Old Kohen Wiley
Hunter Foster has resigned from the police force after the Mississippi attorney general cleared him in the fatal June shooting of toddler Kohen Wiley.
POLICY WIRE — Mississippi, USA — Hunter Foster has officially resigned from his position as a police officer, according to a confirmation provided by Mayor Greg Graves.
The departure follows a determination by the Mississippi attorney general’s office on Monday, which concluded that the use of force during a June incident was legally justified. The fatal encounter originated when officers, who were already present at a Walmart for an unrelated matter, attempted to stop a vehicle moving through the parking lot.
Authorities stated that officers shouted for the driver to halt, but the vehicle continued to move. Foster subsequently discharged his weapon at the car. Legal counsel for the former officer has maintained that his client acted out of necessity because the vehicle was moving toward him.
Tragically, one-year-old Kohen Wiley was inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting and sustained fatal injuries.
