Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo Sidelined for Eight Weeks with Knee Injury
Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo faces up to eight weeks out with a knee injury, while teammate Erling Haaland could return for the Champions League.
POLICY WIRE — Manchester, England — Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo is facing an absence of up to eight weeks after sustaining a knee injury over the weekend.
City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the timeline on Monday, delivering a significant setback to the club following the player’s strong performances at the start of the managerial reign.
The 26-year-old Ghana international was initially rested for Saturday’s fixture against Ipswich Town before entering as a substitute in the 77th minute, during which time he picked up the leg injury.
While Semenyo faces a lengthy recovery on the sidelines, teammate Erling Haaland appears to have avoided a serious issue after picking up a knock during the weekend match.
Maresca indicated that Haaland could be available for selection ahead of Tuesday’s upcoming Champions League fixture against AEK Athens.
Providing a broader update on squad fitness concerning players such as Kovacic, Nunes, Haaland, and O’Reilly, Maresca noted that the rest of the group is more or less all clear.
