Man Arrested in 63-Year-Old Woman’s Murder in Central Park

Jonathan Robles, 36, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon late Sunday evening. His last known residence was at the Barbour Hotel, a homeless shelter located in Hell’s Kitchen.
The victim was discovered near East Drive and East 74th Street with head injuries. Earlier reports indicated she had been stabbed, but that detail was later corrected by investigators. The woman, who was found unconscious around 9:40 a.m., was pronounced dead on arrival at the scene. Authorities confirmed she had no identification on her at the time of discovery.

Visitors to the park expressed shock over the incident. John, a local resident, described the tragedy as heartbreaking, noting that the park is a cherished space for many. Tourist Guadalupe García said the news was deeply upsetting, adding that it casts a shadow over their experience in the city.
Police have not yet determined the exact circumstances of the attack, but they believe the victim may have been experiencing homelessness. The case remains under active investigation.
