POLICY WIRE — Muncie, Indiana — A 28-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly firing a gun inside an IHOP restaurant while confronting a cook over an alleged affair with his wife, according to law enforcement reports.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Muncie, about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Police responded to a call reporting a man with a firearm at the fast-food establishment. The suspect, identified as Austen Wable, reportedly entered the restaurant and accused a cook of having a sexual relationship with his wife, as reported by WTHR.
Officers found a gun and a shell casing at the scene. An IHOP employee described Wable as extremely intoxicated and claimed he pushed the cook while shouting, “You f***** my b**** bro.” The employee also stated that Wable pointed a handgun at the cook, which led to a struggle that resulted in the gun discharging, possibly hitting Wable in the leg. After the shooting, Wable chased the cook with a knife before fleeing the scene in his car, speeding at over 110 mph and weaving through traffic before crashing into a house.
