Maduro Faces New Allegations of Torturing Americans in Venezuelan Prisons, Sources Say
New charges against Maduro allege torture of Americans in Venezuela. Sources confirm potential court action this week.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Federal prosecutors are preparing to file fresh charges against former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, accusing them of orchestrating the torture of American citizens held in Venezuelan detention facilities, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the case.
The accusations come as additional individuals may face legal consequences for their involvement in the mistreatment of over a dozen U.S. nationals who were detained by the Venezuelan government during Maduro’s tenure. A source indicated that the new charges could be disclosed as early as Thursday.

Flores is scheduled for a bond hearing in federal court in the Southern District of New York on Thursday, with a tentative trial date set for June 2027. The Justice Department has not yet responded to requests for comment. Maduro and Flores were previously indicted in January on drug-related charges, including conspiracy to import cocaine into the U.S., and have pleaded not guilty. They were arrested in an overnight operation and brought to the U.S. to face these allegations.
