Lebanese Military Delegation Heads to Florida for High-Stakes Talks on Israeli Offensive
Lebanese officials will meet in Tampa on October 20 to demand an end to Israeli military operations, seeking to restore stability amid ongoing hostilities.
POLICY WIRE — Beirut, Lebanon — A Lebanese military delegation is scheduled to travel to Tampa, Florida, on October 20 to participate in a trilateral meeting. The group intends to formally present Beirut’s demands for an immediate cessation of Israeli military attacks within Lebanon.
The announcement was confirmed by the Lebanese presidency via a post on X. This diplomatic effort follows a series of direct negotiations between the two nations held over recent months, which were initiated in an attempt to resolve the conflict that began on March 2.
Current diplomatic efforts are complicated by a renewed Israeli offensive in southern Lebanon. Lebanese military officials have maintained that progress in US-brokered talks remains impossible until Israel halts its operations and adheres to the terms of the April ceasefire.
Under the framework of previous US-brokered agreements, Beirut committed to the disarmament of Hezbollah. In exchange, the deal outlined a plan for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
Lebanese leadership, including President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, have urged Washington to exert pressure on Israel to honor existing agreements. During recent meetings with US representatives, they emphasized the necessity of supporting the Lebanese Army while committing to ongoing domestic financial and political reforms.
Hostilities have persisted despite a ceasefire declared by US President Donald Trump on April 16. As the conflict continues, particularly in southern Lebanon, Beirut is actively seeking international intervention to stabilize the region and secure a lasting halt to the violence.
