Kyiv Under Siege: Russian Missile Barrage Kills One, Wounds 16
Russia launches a massive missile attack on Kyiv, resulting in casualties and widespread damage. President Zelensky and Kyiv Mayor report the devastation.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Russia launched one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight, resulting in at least one death and 16 injuries, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
A series of powerful explosions rocked the city as 41 missiles of various types targeted multiple districts. Residential buildings, warehouses, a supermarket, and a dormitory were among the structures damaged, said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
“The situation is grave. Our air defenses are stretched thin, — and the damage is extensive,” Zelensky stated in a televised address. “We will continue to defend our city — and our people.”
Emergency services are working to assess the full extent of the damage — and provide assistance to those affected. The attack comes amid escalating tensions — and ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
