POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Jonathan Bailey has decided to leave the London revival of Sunday In The Park With George, following the recent exit of his co-star, Ariana Grande.

A month ago, Grande, aged 33, announced her decision to step back from public life, leading to her withdrawal from the Stephen Sondheim musical.

The singer was originally set to perform alongside Bailey, her Wicked castmate, in the production directed by Marianne Elliott, scheduled for the Barbican in 2027.

Initially, the organizers planned to proceed with Bailey while seeking a replacement for Grande. However, Bailey has now confirmed his own departure from the cast.

In a social media statement, the 38-year-old expressed his unwavering support for Grande and his admiration for Elliott. He revealed his decision to also step back from the production, citing the deep connection between the characters George and Dot as a significant aspect of the musical.

Bailey wished the production’s team and future cast members the best, expressing his excitement to see their interpretation of the roles.
