POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A U.S. government watchdog has issued its first assessment of the Iran‑related conflict, estimating that Tehran’s upgraded missile and drone capabilities have generated as much as $15 billion in damage to American installations throughout the Middle East since hostilities began.
The analysis also points to strategic inventory shortfalls and bottlenecks in the industrial base that have hampered the resupply of U.S. munitions across the theater.
Review of the July 17 strike on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which killed three American service members, illustrates how Iran’s tactics have become markedly more precise and devastating.
The watchdog’s report marks the inaugural public disclosure of damage to U.S. aircraft, forward operating bases and diplomatic outposts linked to the conflict.
Newly released photographs corroborate widespread destruction of U.S. equipment and facilities resulting from Iranian missile and drone attacks.
