Houthi Missile Strikes Kill 30 Yemeni Government Forces

POLICY WIRE — Sanaa, Yemen — At least 30 Yemeni government forces were reportedly killed in Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting “Saudi military build-ups” in the central provinces of Marib and Hadramawt, according to Houthi officials.

The Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the strikes, stating they were aimed at military installations. The attacks underscore the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has drawn international concern over civilian casualties and regional stability.

Yemeni government officials have yet to comment on the reported casualties. The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, have been engaged in a protracted conflict with the internationally recognized Yemeni government and its allies, including Saudi Arabia.

The strikes come amid escalating tensions in the region, with both sides accusing each other of violating ceasefire agreements. The United Nations — and other international bodies have called for de-escalation and a return to peace negotiations.

This latest violence highlights the complexities of the Yemeni civil war, which began in 2014 when Houthi forces took control of the capital, Sanaa, leading to a Saudi-led intervention in support of the Yemeni government.
