Hegseth Vows to Defend Trump Agenda Amidst Midterm Defeat and Impeachment Threats
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth pledges to continue President Trump's 'America First' agenda despite Republican midterm losses and a new impeachment push.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has declared his intention to remain steadfast in carrying out President Donald Trump’s policy goals, even as the administration faces mounting pressure following significant Republican election losses.
Speaking on the steps of the Pentagon on Thursday, Hegseth released a social media video asserting that he will not retreat, just as the president would. He emphasized that the coming months and years represent a vital period for both the defense department and the nation.
Hegseth framed his mission as a commitment to the president’s ‘America First’ vision and the military’s own ‘Peace Through Strength’ doctrine.
The Secretary also took stock to celebrate the elimination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the department. He suggested that Democratic opponents and ‘deep state radicals’ oppose him because he has systematically dismantled these initiatives without hesitation.
Hegseth characterized DEI as a Marxist framework intended to weaken the country, arguing that military strength stems from unity among men and women rather than diversity. He maintained that all service members must be held to the exact same standards regardless of background.
These defiant remarks arrived shortly after reports emerged that a Republican lawmaker is preparing to file articles of impeachment against the defense chief.
Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who has become a frequent critic of President Trump, informed Bloomberg News he intends to reintroduce the impeachment charges once the House reconvenes next week.
Massie previously introduced impeachment articles against Hegseth in September, citing various allegations against his leadership.
