Grammy-Winning Artist Chris Brown Faces Sentencing for London Nightclub Brawl
Singer Chris Brown is set to be sentenced in London for a 2023 nightclub altercation. The Grammy winner pleaded guilty to affray following a bottle attack.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Grammy-winning recording artist Chris Brown is scheduled to appear in court this Monday for sentencing regarding a violent altercation at a London nightclub three years ago.
The 37-year-old performer entered a guilty plea to a charge of affray at Southwark Crown Court this past July. The legal proceedings stem from a February 2023 incident at the Tape nightclub in the Mayfair district, where Brown was accused of striking music producer Abraham Diaw in the head with a bottle.
While Brown initially contested the allegations, prosecutors presented surveillance footage of the confrontation to the court. As part of a plea agreement, authorities dropped additional charges, including assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Brown’s associate and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also entered a guilty plea for his involvement in the brawl and awaits sentencing. Following the incident, Brown departed the United Kingdom but was later apprehended in May 2025 at a hotel in Manchester ahead of a scheduled performance.
The singer has been released on a 5 million pound ($6.7 million) bail, which permitted him to complete his recent concert tours across Europe and North America. The affray charge carries a maximum potential prison sentence of three years.
