German Teen Arrested After Allegedly Coercing American Girl to Die by Suicide
German authorities have arrested an 18-year-old linked to the 'NMK' online group for allegedly pressuring a 14-year-old Indiana girl to take her own life.
POLICY WIRE — Hamburg, Germany — German law enforcement officials, acting on intelligence provided by the FBI, have taken an 18-year-old man into custody in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl in the United States.
The suspect was apprehended in Hamburg on Thursday. Prosecutors have charged him with being an indirect perpetrator of murder and causing grievous bodily harm.
The investigation involved a collaborative effort between the FBI Indianapolis field office and the Fort Wayne Police Department. The local homicide unit successfully identified the suspect as a key figure in the juvenile’s death.
FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O’Malley stated that those who target children will find no safe haven from justice. He emphasized that the FBI remains committed to working with international partners to hold perpetrators accountable regardless of their location.
According to the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office, the suspect is associated with an online collective known as the Nefarious Maniac Kult, or NMK. This group is part of a broader global network frequently identified by the labels 764 or COM.
FBI Director Kash Patel noted that the agency has observed a 300% surge in nihilistic violent extremism cases between September 2024 and September 2025, many of which are linked to the 764 network. While the group lacks a cohesive ideology, members actively promote self-harm and the production of child sexual abuse material.
Prosecutors allege that between September and October, the suspect—who was 17 at the time—used the social media platform Discord to manipulate the Indiana teenager, whom they described as psychologically fragile. He reportedly pressured the girl to self-harm and write the letters NMK on a wall using her own blood, requiring her to send him video evidence of these acts.
The girl died by suicide in her bedroom just days later. Authorities believe the suspect sought a recording of her death to gain status or entry into the extremist group.
