European Allies Prepare First-Ever Post-War Ukraine Military Deployment Drills
Nearly 2,800 troops from the UK, France, and Germany will rehearse deployment logistics in Poland for Ukraine following a potential ceasefire.
POLICY WIRE — Warsaw, Poland — Thousands of European military personnel are set to participate in a landmark training exercise designed to simulate the deployment of forces into Ukraine following a cessation of hostilities.
The operation, organized under the Multinational Force for Ukraine, will involve approximately 2,800 troops testing the logistical frameworks and troop movements required for a post-peace mission.
At least 1,500 service members from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are scheduled to gather in Poland this November to engage in these joint maneuvers.
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting announced the upcoming drills following his initial face-to-face meeting with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon on the 15th.
The primary objectives of the potential mission include bolstering Ukrainian national defenses, securing sovereign airspace, and facilitating the restoration of shipping lanes within the Black Sea.
Western officials have explicitly clarified that any personnel sent to the region would be strictly defensive in nature and would not engage in offensive military operations.
Military analysts have previously noted that Western nations might eventually require tens of thousands of soldiers to ensure long-term Ukrainian security if the conflict concludes.
Regarding the rules of engagement, British forces are reportedly authorized to return fire against Russian units should they be attacked during the mission.
