Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Sidelined for Remainder of 2026 Season Following Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis
Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts is out for the 2026 NFL season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.
POLICY WIRE — Philadelphia, USA — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season as he undergoes medical treatment for blood clots discovered in his lungs.
The star signal-caller was placed on injured reserve last Saturday. This move followed an initial diagnosis of a blood clot in his calf, which was identified two days prior.
Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles organization confirmed that the condition has progressed to deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning the clot migrated from his leg to his lungs. The Super Bowl LIX MVP has begun a regimen of blood thinners and is prohibited from participating in any contact sports or practice sessions during his recovery.
In a joint statement, the team and Lynn noted that Hurts underwent comprehensive evaluations by medical experts. The franchise clarified that while the quarterback is clinically stable with no significant functional limitations, his treatment plan strictly forbids contact activities.
The statement further expressed optimism regarding his long-term health, noting that the team expects a full recovery. While he remains sidelined from gameplay, Hurts is expected to continue conditioning and remain involved with the team.
The medical issue surfaced while the team was in London, where Hurts remained in the hospital until 4 a.m. prior to the Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his absence, backup Tanner McKee has taken over duties.
The Eagles currently hold a 2-4 record following a 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers. The team sits in second place in the NFC East, trailing the division-leading New York Giants by 1.5 games.
