DNC Sues Trump Admin Over Taxpayer-Funded Political Ads
DNC sues Trump administration for using taxpayer money on political ads, claiming they violate propaganda laws and cost millions.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The Democratic National Committee has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging that recent television advertisements promoting the president’s political message are illegal government-sponsored propaganda and are being funded by taxpayer dollars.
The complaint, submitted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, claims that the ads, which have already cost over $12 million to run, violate federal laws prohibiting the use of appropriated funds for publicity or propaganda. It also accuses President Trump of personally directing the campaign, which is being paid for using Homeland Security Department funding.

The ads, which began airing in September, have drawn bipartisan criticism as the midterm elections approach. While Trump has defended the ads as positive promotion for our Great U.S.A., he has not committed to reimbursing any of the funds already spent. The DNC argues that the ads represent a misuse of taxpayer money and a last-ditch effort to bolster Republican chances in November.
