Cornell Rape Accuser Claims Misled About Criminal Investigation
A Cornell University student claims she was misled about the status of a criminal investigation into a 2024 gang rape allegation, according to her lawyer.
POLICY WIRE — Ithaca, N.Y. — A Cornell University student accused of being raped at a fraternity party in 2024 claims she was misled about the status of the criminal investigation into the incident, according to her attorney.
The woman, referred to as Jane Doe in court documents, alleges that she was told the investigation was ongoing, but it actually ended shortly after she reported the crime to police, said her lawyer, Thomas Giuffra.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten decided not to pursue criminal charges within days of the woman’s initial interviews with police, Giuffra said. The district attorney has not spoken directly with the woman or her lawyer, and the university’s police department has not commented on the matter.
