POLICY WIRE — Beijing, China — The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has committed to a significant expansion of its financial sector, aiming to provide global investors with greater access to the nation’s markets. Governor Pan Gongsheng emphasized that yuan-denominated assets are well-positioned to satisfy the increasing demand for portfolio diversification among international stakeholders.
During a symposium held on Monday with foreign financial institutions, the central bank outlined its strategy to advance high-level opening-up measures. These initiatives are designed to improve cross-border yuan payment systems and bolster offshore markets to facilitate the currency’s broader international adoption.
Looking toward the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which spans from 2026 to 2030, officials intend to refine policy frameworks and enhance the two-way opening of financial markets. Governor Pan noted that these steps are essential to address challenges posed by geopolitical risks, shifting global economic conditions, and the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence.
To maintain stability, the PBOC plans to broaden its macro-prudential management coverage and develop a robust monitoring system to mitigate systemic risks. The central bank also intends to promote the use of renminbi bonds as eligible collateral, further integrating China into the global financial ecosystem while supporting the real economy’s access to high-quality services.
