Brewers Power Past Dodgers 6-2 with 7th-Inning Homers to Take 3-0 NLCS Lead
The Milwaukee Brewers surge to a 3-0 NLCS lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers after back-to-back seventh-inning home runs secure a thrilling 6-2 victory.
POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, United States — The Milwaukee Brewers stand one victory away from securing their first National League pennant after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in Game 3 of the NLCS on Wednesday night.
After falling behind in the sixth inning, Milwaukee mounted a decisive three-run rally in the seventh featuring back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell off Dodgers starter Blake Snell.
The win provides the Brewers with a commanding 3-0 series cushion and pushes the defending World Series champions to the verge of elimination.
Outfielder Jackson Chourio jumpstarted Milwaukee’s offense on the first pitch of the game, crushing a solo home run to put the visitors ahead early.
Los Angeles took a brief 2-1 advantage in the sixth when catcher Will Smith hit a two-run double off reliever Abner Uribe following three consecutive walks.
Milwaukee responded instantly in the top of the seventh after Andrew Vaughn drew a lead-off walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Christian Yelich.
Bauers worked an 11-pitch at-bat against Snell before delivering a go-ahead, two-run home run that traveled 412 feet into the right-field seats.
Bauers noted that he was searching for a fastball and did not want to miss it, explaining that his mindset shifted this season when he stopped caring about results and focused on competing and getting out of his own way.
Immediately following Bauers, Mitchell hit a 428-foot solo home run to right-center field to end Snell’s outing and extend Milwaukee’s lead.
Mitchell described watching the lengthy plate appearance by Bauers prior to his own home run as super sick.
The Brewers added two late insurance runs, scoring on a wild pitch by Justin Wrobleski in the eighth and an RBI single from Joey Ortiz in the ninth.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy highlighted his club’s continuous resilience, noting that replying immediately after an opponent scores is not easy to do in baseball.
Reliever DL Hall claimed the victory after pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, while Trevor Megill recorded four outs to earn his fourth save of the postseason.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts focused on the urgent task ahead, stating that his team has won four consecutive games multiple times this season and must focus solely on winning tomorrow.
Game 4 takes place Thursday evening at Dodger Stadium, where Milwaukee can complete a sweep against the team that swept them out of the postseason last year.
Despite being on the brink of a historic pennant, Mitchell maintained a focused outlook, stating, Job’s not finished yet.
