Apple iPhone Duo Pre-Orders Surge, Backordered Until 2027
Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo faces massive demand, with shipping dates pushed to 2027. Explore the latest sales trends and device features here.
POLICY WIRE — Cupertino, USA — Apple is experiencing intense consumer interest in its inaugural foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, which saw supplies vanish rapidly following the launch of pre-orders this past Friday.
Wall Street analyst Dan Ives, a partner at Yorkville Ives, noted in a research report that the initial performance is strong, stating, Apple opened iPhone Duo pre-orders this morning, and the early read looks robust in our view, with demand for Cupertino’s first foldable running well ahead of supply out of the gates.
The pre-order window officially commenced at 8 a.m. ET on Friday via the Apple Store app and the company’s website. By Friday afternoon, the overwhelming volume of orders had pushed estimated delivery dates well beyond the October 23 launch, with the device currently backordered until late January.
Market research analyst Max Weinbach of Creativestrat highlighted the scarcity on X, remarking, it is been 3 minutes, and it is sold out at every store around the NYC/CT area. Apple has not yet provided a statement regarding the specific number of pre-order requests processed.
Unveiled last month by new CEO John Ternus, the iPhone Duo features a split-screen interface that allows users to run two distinct applications simultaneously or view dual windows of a single website for tasks like comparison shopping. The device, which measures roughly the size of a passport when folded, boasts the largest display of any Apple handset, offering a form factor closer to an iPad.
Pricing for the iPhone Duo begins at $1,999 for the 256 GB storage model. This release follows the debut of the iPhone 18, which Ternus introduced at the company’s annual fall showcase and released to the public last month.
Looking ahead, Ives anticipates that interest in the foldable device will persist through 2027 as existing iPhone users look to upgrade. He estimates that Apple will move approximately 10 million units over the coming quarters, with sales potentially reaching 25 million by 2027.
