Apple and Qualcomm Extend Chip Licensing Agreement Through 2027
Apple extends patent licensing deal with Qualcomm, securing key tech partnership for next six years.
POLICY WIRE — San Diego, United States — Apple and Qualcomm have announced the extension of their long-standing patent-licensing agreement, which will now run through April 1, 2027. The renewed pact reinforces a critical business relationship between the two tech giants.
The agreement follows a major 2019 settlement that ended a multi-year legal dispute over wireless patents and modem chip supply. At the time, Apple made an undisclosed payment to Qualcomm, and both companies agreed to a six-year global licensing deal starting in April 2019. The current contract is set to expire on March 31, 2027, with an option to extend by two more years.
Qualcomm confirmed the renewal in a statement, highlighting the significance of the deal for its licensing revenue. The company’s stock rose 1% in premarket trading following the announcement. Both Apple and Qualcomm declined to provide further details about the financial terms or internal negotiations surrounding the agreement.
