APA Rebukes House Report on Antisemitism Amid Growing Concerns
Investigating antisemitism claims at American Psychological Association, lawmakers find leadership failures
POLICY WIRE — Washington D.C., USA — The American Psychological Association (APA) has formally rejected a House report detailing widespread antisemitism and leadership failures within the organization.
The report, released by the House Education and Workforce Committee, found that anti-Israel and anti-Jewish activists had successfully influenced the APA, leading to concerns about the organization’s handling of antisemitism-related complaints.
Senior officials with the APA were accused of dismissing concerns from Jewish psychologists about the organization’s response to antisemitism-related complaints following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.
Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) of the Education and Workforce Committee released the findings, highlighting the APA’s repeated failures to confront antisemitism, including consulting with a deeply antizionist affiliate group known as the American Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African Psychological Association (AMENA-Psy) when crafting its statement on the October 7th attacks.
The report’s findings have been described as ‘heartbreaking’ by psychologists, who argue that the APA’s leadership has failed to adequately address antisemitism within the organization.
