POLICY WIRE — Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Anthony Loke, leader of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), has confirmed he will continue serving as Malaysia’s transport minister until former Prime Minister Najib Razak begins his house arrest.

Loke submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a meeting on Monday, but was asked to remain in his role until Najib is released from prison. He said the decision would take effect once Najib returns home under the terms of a conditional royal pardon.

The DAP chief had previously resigned in protest over the pardon granted to Najib, which allows him to serve the rest of his six-year sentence at home after paying a RM50 million fine. Loke emphasized that the move was a party decision to express dissatisfaction with the ruling, which he called a symbol of the long-standing corruption crisis in Malaysia.
