(Washington, DC) – Yesterday, the Trump Administration dropped its appeal of the federal court ruling on anti-DEI funding threats to schools and universities. As a result, the federal court decision that ruled the Administration’s attempt to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion practices violates the First Amendment will stand.
This comes nearly a year after the initial anti-DEI warning “Dear Colleague Letter” was sent to schools last February.
In response, Kristin McGuire, President and CEO at Young Invincibles, said:
Providing equal opportunity to students of all backgrounds is not a crime. We’ve long known this, and are glad to see the Administration drop its appeal and acknowledge its unlawful actions. This is a monumental win for students across the nation.
Reversing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts undermines educators’ and administrators’ ability to build strong campuses where all students can thrive.
These attacks against DEI were illegal and a direct violation of the First Amendment. While we celebrate this win, it is vital that schools fully restore programs and reverse decisions made in response to this order. We must continue to prioritize and protect policies that uplift student experience, embrace diverse perspectives, and advance opportunity.
