Living in a world where the global politics are getting dominated more by power games, economic unities and the ease of convenience, Pakistan can be singled out as the country that continues to exercise the principles of justice, diplomacy, human dignity. Well backed by attractive internal and external affairs havoc, nevertheless, the nation has demonstrated strength and moral and practical uniformity towards its overseas affairs, particularly the promotion of down-trodden communities, maintenance of peace in the region as well as multilateralism.
This can be felt no better than in Pakistan which has always been on the side of the people of Kashmir and Palestine which have been amongst the most long-suffering communities in the recent history. Pakistan has been demanding during the past decades, the inalienable right of the Kashmiris to self determination as per the resolutions of the UN Security Council. Pakistan unlike many in the international community who have opted silence or strategical ambiguity has done all which is possible to bring into the limelight the fact that Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir is continuing to occupy as also pursuing demographic engineering and human rights violations of its people.
The international response was led by Pakistan, who followed up after India had unilaterally and illegally abrogated Article 370 in August 2019 removing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The government mobilized the diplomatic track, used special sessions in the UN and OIC, and generated detailed dossiers covering atrocities, enforced disappearances, extra-judicial killings and blackouts of the media. As the world looked away in most part, Pakistan did not give up — not to compete, but to stand in support of a nation denied its rights systematically.
This is moral diplomacy which is not confined to Kashmir. Pakistan has also been quite vocal in its defence of Palestine the Israeli aggressiveness and policies of apartheid, more so in the gruesome attack on Gaza in 2021 and the genocide witnessed today in 2024-2025. In an era when a number of Muslim-majority nations have established normal relations with Tel Aviv after aligning themselves with the murderous state a few decades, where they could easily betray their moral and legal promise towards the Palestinian cause, Pakistan has not compromised. It has insisted that there could be no compromise over recognition of Israel until an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as capital is established and that is a matter of international law and justice and not expediency.
The uniqueness of Pakistan has so far been the capacity to hold this high ground on principle in the face of this increasing international pressure. Its international relations are not based on transactionalism. Although it is the norm to find major powers employing the double standards where they hubbub about certain occupations and rationalize in furtherance of others, Pakistan has also been clear headed and has acted with a clear conscious.
Pakistan has also been a responsible and peace seeking country in the regional affairs. It has adamantly proclaimed its agenda to a peaceful and stable South Asia that continues to invite India to the table so that all the pending issues can be discussed, one of which is Kashmir. But India has constantly declined these attempts going instead with militarizing, propaganda, and information deceptions. Nevertheless Pakistan has left the gates of peace open and it is apparent to them that sustainable development and human security in South Asia cannot be met by confrontation.
In addition, Pakistan has also provided great efforts to world peace and multilateralism, particularly in terms of participation in UN peacekeeping operations. Pakistani forces have worked exemplarly in some of the most hostile conflict areas across the world, including Africa, and Balkans making much respect, and appreciation of their professional skills, as well as humanitarian approach. This accounts as a national interest to peaceful settlement of conflicts and world duty.
At home, Pakistan is still on the move amidst a tough geo-political neighbourhood, an economic crunch, and the heavy cost of harbouring millions of Afghan refugees in the country over the last 40 years, which is a humanitarian rescue effort hard to beat by any nation. Pakistanis have proven to be a very resilient nation hit by natural calamities, terrorism, and economic shocks of the whole world, yet they have become stronger and more cohesive.
In addition, the new direction experienced by the country in foreign diplomacy within the new leadership demonstrates signs of maturity. Its turn to regional links, trade and energy with Central Asia, Middle East and China are all indications of a future policy that sees Pakistan at the intersection of new world trade routes. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is more than an infrastructural project; it is an economic integration vision, a regional development vision as well as a shared prosperity vision.
Notably, Pakistan has not been hesitant to pursue brave humanitarian stands even at odds with popular opinion. It helped its neighbor countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and during the following humanitarian crisis, asked fair access to the vaccine in developing countries. Pakistan has always pursued a multilateral approach, climate justice and economic equity on forums like the UN, OIC and SCO.
The case of Pakistan has nothing to do with performative or opportunistic involvement in the region and the world at large in terms of Islamic solidarity, peace as well as justice. It is defined in the national identity of the country, as well as its doctrine of foreign policy and the national will itself. Pakistan, as against political winds that bow others, has taken a stand, and even to the economically and diplomatically detrimental cost, in maintaining what is right.
At a time when most of the states are giving up the pursuit of values and pursuing immediate interests, the vision of the Pakistani leadership provides a unique case of a diplomacy that is driven by an idea and not a force, by justice and not by a profession of opportunity. This should not imply that making Pakistan is a very easy task since it does not come without its mountains. Stretched as they are, however, a just world, a free Kashmir, a liberated Palestine, and a peaceful South Asia have never been forgotten by the country in its darkest days.
The slogans of the unfolding multipolar world, and not only the size of the economy, will make up the judgment of nations in the multipolar world of that unfolding. In those regards, Pakistan towers high.
