Houston Astros Part Ways With Manager Joe Espada Following Playoff Exit
The Houston Astros have officially parted ways with manager Joe Espada after declining to renew his contract following a disappointing postseason exit.
POLICY WIRE — Houston, USA — The Houston Astros have officially parted ways with manager Joe Espada, confirming on Wednesday that the organization will not renew his contract.
The decision comes as the franchise undergoes a significant leadership overhaul, with Espada’s contract set to expire at the end of October. Alongside the manager’s departure, the team announced that several members of the coaching staff, including catching instructor Tim Cossins, game planning coach Tommy Kawamura, third base coach Tony Perezchica, assistant hitting coach Anthony Iapoce, and assistant pitching coach Ethan Katz, have also been let go.
Team owner Jim Crane expressed gratitude for Espada’s dedication and professional conduct during his tenure. The Astros are now tasked with finding both a new manager and a general manager, following the firing of former GM Dana Brown this past August.
Espada, 51, concludes his managerial stint with a 256-229 record. His departure follows a challenging 2026 season where the team finished 81-81, securing a playoff spot despite a non-winning record, only to be swept by the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card Series.
