POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Russian drone strikes have killed at least seven people and injured more than 80 others in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, according to officials. The attacks targeted residential areas, offices, and a key cultural site, marking another escalation in the conflict that has raged for over four years.

The National Academy of Sciences building in downtown Kyiv was hit by a drone, with one woman losing her life and several staff members escaping via firefighters’ ladders. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko condemned the assault as a campaign of “pure terror” against civilians, emphasizing the disruption to daily life and destruction of infrastructure.

Russian forces also struck a pharmaceutical company, gas stations, and an office complex in Dnipro, where three died and 18 were injured. In Kharkiv, a nine-story apartment building was hit, wounding 43 people, including 11 children. Additional attacks damaged buildings in Zaporizhzhia and Odesa, with three injured in the latter city. Meanwhile, the Russian military claimed to have targeted data centers and a postal hub, aiming to disrupt Ukraine’s grain exports and potentially cause global food shortages.
