Ronald Sakolsky, 69, was stunned by the sight of the lush woodland during his first visit to the area in 26 years. The transformation, which he witnessed firsthand, was made possible in part by his contribution to Yin Yuzhen, a local farmer and sand-control worker who began planting trees decades ago to combat isolation in the Mu Us Desert.
