POLICY WIRE — Moscow, Russia — The results of Russia’s first parliamentary election held during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine have been officially released, reinforcing the Kremlin’s firm grip on power.

The three-day voting concluded on Sunday, with the Central Election Commission announcing that the ruling United Russia party secured more than three-quarters of the seats in the State Duma, marking a historic high. The election excluded meaningful opposition, with only a handful of smaller parties allowed to participate under strict state control.

Voter turnout reached nearly 60%, the highest in over a decade, as authorities extended voting over three days and introduced online voting in select regions. The election took place in four Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia in 2022, as well as Crimea, which was seized in 2014. Kyiv condemned the vote as illegal, while President Vladimir Putin called it a demonstration of public support for his policies.
