POLICY WIRE — Rome, Italy — Italy’s government has enacted a decree limiting the number of students in classrooms who have limited Italian language skills and banning face-covering Islamic veils in schools.

The measure, which takes immediate effect, allows no more than 30% of students in any classroom to be non-Italian speakers. It also prohibits burqas and niqabs in educational settings, though hijabs are still permitted.
