POLICY WIRE — Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo — A vessel traveling from Tanzania to the Democratic Republic of Congo sank on Lake Tanganyika on Thursday, resulting in at least 41 fatalities, according to local authorities.

The boat was carrying approximately 100 individuals along with cargo when it overturned, as reported by Norris Mulongoyi, the provincial transport minister for Tanganyika province. So far, 49 people have been rescued, while efforts continue to locate the remaining passengers.
