The 35-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur player was with his Prachuap teammates when the incident occurred. The roller, operated by a groundskeeper, ran over Townsend, pushing him to the ground and rolling up his legs before the driver managed to stop the machine.

Despite the scare, Townsend recovered quickly and later came on as a substitute in the match, which Prachuap won 3-0 against Pattani FC. He later joked about the incident on Instagram, referencing the reputation of Stoke City as a difficult away venue.
