POLICY WIRE — Huntsville, Texas — A man sentenced to death for the 2005 slayings of three individuals is scheduled to be executed in Texas on Wednesday. Meanwhile, an execution in Georgia has been temporarily paused by a court.

The Texas execution marks the fifth this year, while Georgia has not carried out any death sentences so far in 2024. Florida remains the state with the highest number of executions, accounting for more than half of the 25 nationwide this year.

LeJames Norman, 40, was condemned for the fatal shootings of Samuel Roberts, Tiffani Peacock, and Celso Lopez at their shared home in Edna, a small rural town. He will receive a lethal injection of pentobarbital at 6 p.m. CDT. Stacey Humphreys, 53, had been set for execution at 7 p.m. EDT in Georgia but faced a judicial stay late Tuesday. His legal team is seeking a resentencing under new state legislation that allows for reduced sentences if abuse is linked to the crime.
