Trespasser Reported at Kamala Harris’ Malibu Residence; Security Responds
Los Angeles County deputies investigated a trespassing incident at Kamala Harris' Malibu home. The former VP was not present during the security breach.
POLICY WIRE — Malibu, California — Law enforcement officials in Los Angeles County were dispatched to the Malibu residence of former Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday evening following reports of an unauthorized individual on the property.
Deputies arrived at the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call regarding a suspicious person from the former vice president’s private security team. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the individual and instructed them to vacate the premises, which they did voluntarily and without further conflict.
Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, confirmed that security personnel intercepted the individual after they had illegally accessed the property but before they could reach the main residence. Negrón noted that both Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were away at the time and expressed gratitude for the rapid response from law enforcement and security staff.

In response to the breach, the sheriff’s department has filed a formal trespassing report and announced plans to bolster patrols in the vicinity as a preventative measure.
While former vice presidents generally retain federal protection for six months following their departure from office, the duration of Harris’ security detail has been a subject of policy shifts. Although President Joe Biden had previously authorized an extension of her protection, President Donald Trump rescinded that order last August, meaning the standard coverage period concluded this summer.
