POLICY WIRE — Johor, Malaysia — Johor authorities have apprehended eight individuals linked to a string of 17 vehicle break-ins and thefts across the state, including four incidents involving Singapore-registered cars at resorts in the Desaru region.

The suspects, comprising four Malaysian men, two Indonesian men, and two Indonesian women aged between 26 and 60, were taken into custody during two separate operations on Monday and Tuesday. Police stated that the group targeted vehicles left unattended in open spaces and quiet streets, breaking windows to steal valuables either for personal use or resale.

In the first raid, three Malaysian men were detained in the Masai and Majidee areas of Johor Bahru, with law enforcement recovering a vehicle, three phones, and three iPads. All three had prior criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine. In the second operation, a 60-year-old Malaysian man was arrested alongside two Indonesian men and two women in Kulai and Muar, where officers recovered two vehicles, multiple phones, cash, and other items. None of those arrested in the second raid had criminal records, and the Indonesian nationals were found to hold valid entry documents.
