This decision comes in response to heightened geopolitical tensions following US President Donald Trump’s previous claims on the semi-autonomous territory.

The conscripts are participating in Arctic Endurance, a Danish military exercise aimed at training soldiers for combat and survival in extreme cold-weather conditions. This initiative is part of NATO’s Arctic Sentry mission, launched this year to reinforce the alliance’s presence in the Arctic and mitigate tensions within NATO.

Greenland, a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has become a focal point of geopolitical interest due to its strategic position, potential Arctic shipping routes, and deposits of rare-earth minerals. Copenhagen’s move to send conscripts to Greenland underscores the growing security concerns in the region.

Over 100 Danish conscripts will take over operational duties during a month-long deployment to Greenland.
