POLICY WIRE — Anaheim, Calif. — Kroenke Sports and Entertainment has finalized an agreement to acquire controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno. This move extends Kroenke’s extensive portfolio of sports teams across major U.S. leagues.
The acquisition, announced by Kroenke’s company on Tuesday, is expected to be completed in early 2027. The transaction is valued at $4 billion, setting a new record for an MLB team sale.
Kroenke’s empire already includes the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, Premier League’s Arsenal, NBA’s Denver Nuggets, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, and SoFi Stadium. The addition of the Angels marks his entry into baseball.
Moreno, who has owned the Angels since 2003, will retain a minority stake in the team, along with its regional television network and radio station. The Angels have faced significant challenges under Moreno’s leadership, including prolonged periods of underperformance and off-field issues.
Players, including Mike Trout, expressed shock and optimism about the change in ownership. Trout, a three-time AL MVP, sees the acquisition as a fresh start for the team.
The Angels’ recent struggles contrast sharply with the success of Kroenke’s other teams, which have won multiple championships in recent years.

The sale ends Moreno’s 23-year tenure, during which the team saw both highs and lows, including a World Series win in 2002 and a prolonged period of decline.
The acquisition also revives a historic connection between Kroenke’s MLB and NFL teams, as the Rams previously played at Angel Stadium from 1980 to 1994.
