POLICY WIRE — New Orleans, USA — Milo Yiannopoulos, a 41-year-old British national and controversial far-right political commentator, was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Thursday.
Yiannopoulos, who previously worked for Kanye West and Breitbart, was detained for overstaying his visa. He entered the U.S. legally on May 14, 2019, but failed to appear for an immigration hearing, leading to a final order of removal issued by an Immigration Judge on July 22.
A mugshot released by the Department of Homeland Security shows a somber Yiannopoulos. Online records confirm he remains in ICE custody as of Friday afternoon, pending removal from the country.
TMZ initially reported Yiannopoulos’s arrest. The Independent has reached out to ICE for further comment.
Yiannopoulos’s detention occurred just a day before West’s scheduled performance at Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans. It remains uncertain whether Yiannopoulos was expected to attend the concert.

Far-right activist Laura Loomer praised ICE’s action on X, claiming credit for exposing Yiannopoulos as an “illegal alien.”
Known for his provocative alt-right politics and controversial online rhetoric, Yiannopoulos has a history of posting sexist, racist, and transphobic content. The Anti-Defamation League has categorized some of his statements as extremism, hate, or terrorism.
