POLICY WIRE — Phoenix, AZ — Arizona Attorney General’s office announced today that no criminal charges will be filed against Governor Katie Hobbs, following an investigation into allegations of a pay-to-play scheme with a group home company.
The decision comes after a thorough examination of evidence and testimonies related to the claims. The allegations surfaced earlier this year, prompting a formal inquiry by state prosecutors.
In a statement, the Attorney General’s office noted, “After careful review of all available evidence, we have determined that there is insufficient basis to pursue criminal charges against Governor Hobbs.”
Governor Hobbs has consistently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the allegations were politically motivated. “I have always acted with integrity and in the best interest of Arizona’s citizens,” she said in a press release.
The group home company in question has also issued a statement, refuting any improper dealings with the governor. “We operate with transparency and adhere to all legal and ethical standards in our business practices,” the company said.
This decision closes a significant chapter in Arizona’s political landscape, though it is unlikely to quell all public skepticism. The case has drawn considerable attention, highlighting the scrutiny faced by public officials in their dealings with private entities.
