POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Eugeniu Neamtu, a 59-year-old Romanian national, has been sentenced to prison for the murder of his housemate in Walthamstow, east London. Neamtu, also known as Jimmy, fatally stabbed Gheorghe Trica, 63, in the chest on February 20. This conviction comes three years after Neamtu was released from a Romanian prison where he served time for a strikingly similar crime.
In May 2007, Neamtu was found guilty in Romania of murdering his housemate by stabbing him in the chest during a drunken argument over money. His prior conviction could only be reported after his recent guilty verdict at the Old Bailey.
The Metropolitan Police issued an undated handout photo of Neamtu, highlighting the seriousness of the crime and the subsequent legal proceedings. The photo is credited to the Metropolitan Police/PA Wire and is available for editorial reporting purposes.
