POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Local residents have voiced escalating concerns over the increasing number of illegal e-motorbike races occurring on city streets. Multiple reports indicate that groups of riders are frequently seen racing through residential and commercial areas, causing significant disturbance and posing severe safety risks.
“We’ve witnessed these reckless races happening almost daily now,” said a local resident who preferred to remain anonymous. “it is terrifying to think what could happen if one of these riders loses control. Our streets are not racetracks.”
The Metropolitan Police have acknowledged the issue, stating that they are stepping up patrols in affected areas. “We are aware of the concerns raised by the community and are taking measures to address this dangerous activity,” a police spokesperson said. “We urge anyone with information about these races to contact us immediately.”
City council officials are also considering additional measures to enhance street safety. “We are exploring options to install more speed bumps and surveillance cameras in high-risk areas,” said Councillor Jane Smith. “The safety of our residents is our top priority.”
This growing problem has prompted calls for stricter regulations on e-motorbikes. “There needs to be better enforcement of existing laws and perhaps new legislation to curb this behavior,” argued local activist group, Safe Streets UK. “We cannot allow our communities to be put at risk like this.”
