US Homicide Rate Reaches Historic Low, FBI Reports

POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released its annual crime report, revealing that the homicide rate in the United States has dropped to its lowest level since 1956. The rate decreased by 18.1% in 2025, marking a significant milestone in national crime statistics.

According to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, the number of homicides nationwide fell from 21,572 in 2024 to 17,700 in 2025. This represents the lowest homicide rate in 75 years, a period spanning back to the post-World War II era.
