First Entirely British-Made Chocolate Bar Since 1932 Unveiled

Master’s student Maha Khan has successfully harvested and processed cocoa grown in Reading to produce this unique chocolate bar.

The last time a chocolate bar was made entirely from British-grown cocoa was nearly a century ago, during a brief period of experimental cocoa farming in the UK. Since then, the British chocolate industry has relied almost exclusively on imported cocoa beans, primarily from West Africa.

Khan’s creation not only highlights the feasibility of local cocoa farming but also opens up discussions about the sustainability and ethical sourcing of chocolate. With growing consumer awareness about the environmental and social impacts of chocolate production, this innovation could pave the way for more sustainable practices in the industry.

The chocolate bar is currently being showcased at local events and is garnering attention from both chocolate enthusiasts and industry professionals. While it is not yet available for widespread commercial sale, there are plans to explore potential partnerships with local businesses to bring this unique product to market.
