Malaysia Pledges Protection for Rohingya Refugees Facing Peril in Myanmar

POLICY WIRE — Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Malaysian authorities have affirmed their commitment to not return Rohingya refugees to Myanmar if their lives are at risk, as they conduct screenings on approximately 5,000 individuals. Human rights organizations have expressed ongoing concerns about the safety of these refugees should they be repatriated to Myanmar.

The Malaysian government’s stance comes amid escalating tensions and violence in Myanmar, where the Rohingya minority faces severe persecution. Rights groups have warned that returning refugees to Myanmar could place them in immediate danger.
