POLICY WIRE — Moscow, Russia — Russian authorities reported on Monday that a drone attack, allegedly launched by Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including three children, and injured 40 others at the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik.
The Russian government stated that the attack targeted civilians at a holiday resort. There has been no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials. Both nations have previously asserted that they don’t intentionally target civilian populations in the ongoing conflict, which Russia initiated in 2022.
Social media videos, verified by Reuters, appear to show a drone striking a crowded beach area near the town. The authenticity — and origin of the drone remain subjects of investigation.
